Border Control?

•August 3, 2010 • Leave a Comment

A large part of what Americans have complained about for quite some time now is the fact that the government has not and is not doing enough in regards to immigration reform.  So when the state of Arizona actually takes action and does something about it then suddenly everyone has a problem with it.  Now it’s racial profiling for the police to ask assumed illegal immigrants for paperwork showing that they are in fact a US citizen and if they are not then the consequences are to follow.  How is that racial profiling?  True this law would apply to a significant amount of Hispanics and Latinos and they would be the ones being stopped but it’s not as if you have a lot of black illegal immigrants here.  Who else would it apply to?  I keep seeing them protesting on the news with shirts that read an emotional plea not to deport their loved ones and send them home but seriously if your loved ones would become a legal citizen and do things the right way, the way so many other immigrants have took the time to do, the way that people in other countries waiting to come to the United States are dying to do, then they would not have to worry about being deported.  I for one am tired of the illegal immigrants that do so much to get into this country and fight so hard to stay here but won’t stop being lazy and take the time to learn English which is the language that we speak in the United States.  Instead these illegal immigrants have everyone in the United States bending over backwards to speak their language and it’s not right.  I am all for deportation.  Truth is, if you can’t get off your ass and do what it takes for you to stay here then you should go home and then maybe you would think about the fact that all you had to do to stay here is what every other LEGAL immigrant does.  Become a citizen.  Arizona has the right idea and at least they are taking the initiative to do something about it.  I am not saying that it will definitely work but it certainly is more of a start than the Obama administration has taken towards fixing the problem of illegal immigration.  When Obama was running for President (and I am a fan of Obama and did vote for him) he promised people that something would be done about the immigration issues here but now that a state has taken the time to actually act on it instead of just talk about it then they have a problem.  What is the issue, that the Obama administration didn’t get to do it first?  I say that we need even stricter laws in regards to immigration and I for one am glad that Arizona got the ball rolling.  Thank you Arizona.

This is Legal Now???

Who in the world thought that legalizing marijuana would be a good idea?  It was one thing to say that people could get a prescription and use marijuana for medicinal purposes but to just say that people can go around and smoke a joint as if they were just smoking a cigarette on the corner is just ridiculous.  I for one am not in favor of this and I don’t know how the idiots that are going to pass this can not see the negative that is going to follow this action.  What’s more is I don’t understand why Obama is letting this happen.  I have a young child who I do not want to have to worry about having to cover her nose and mouth every time we go somewhere and there might be someone standing on the corner smoking a joint.  It’s crazy for anyone to think that this could be a good idea.  Obviously the potheads are happy but what about the responsible and sensible adults?  Where are they?  Why aren’t they saying something in protest to this?  What about the parents?  Legalizing marijuana is going to do nothing but cause chaos and more trouble.  Now everyone is going to use weed as an excuse for everything and extreme sage of marijuana just leads to heavier and more hard-hitting drugs.  Anyone who says that marijuana is not addictive and that it doesn’t in many ways harm your brain and your body is either crazy or they just don’t do their research.  Legalizing marijuana is not going to do anything but lead people to much more dangerous drugs as if marijuana isn’t dangerous enough in itself.  So when people are causing more trouble and chaos because they’re high, what is going to be done then?  With insignificant laws like this passing it’s no wonder that the major one’s that really need to be concentrated on are falling by the waste side.  What about the decent people that don’t need drugs to have a good time and who would rather not have to live in an environment where people will be allowed to just smoke up a storm wherever and whenever they please?  What about us?  I already hate having to deal with the people who can smoke cigarettes any where they want to but now I have to deal with people walking around smoking pot.  Why do I have to suffer for other people’s bad choices?  Can’t we just all not smoke and preserve our lungs?  What is wrong with people that they have to smoke pot just to feel good?  This just doesn’t make sense to me.

Racism is Not Dead

•April 15, 2010 • Leave a Comment

I know in reality that racism will most likely always still exist in one form or another but what appalls me more than the racism that whites may still have towards African Americans is the racism that I see brewing more and more in African Americans towards whites.  Now as an African American I can write this having no bias.  I hear more and more wherever I go from African Americans about how they hate white people or how they think that white people owe us something because of slavery.  They constantly make statements about how this happened because it was a white person and if it were a white person so and so wouldn’t have went to jail.  I find it so hard to believe that people who know what African Americans have been through as far as racism could project that against anyone else even if it is whites.  I personally have never had a problem with white people, actually I tend to make white friends easier than I do blacks but maybe that’s because I don’t just see them as white people.  I mean sure they clearly are white and there’s no getting around that, but I see people as people.  We all bleed red and really to me that’s all that should matter.  I don’t think that it’s right for blacks to continue to blame white for what they can and can not do in this world.  I can’t get a job so it’s the white people’s fault.  I can’t purchase a home so that must be the white man’s fault.  I can’t seem to get good grades and stay in school to get my degree so that is somehow the white man’s fault.  What I don’t get is when are the blacks going to blame themselves for some of their own shortcomings?  Everything can’t always be someone else’s fault.  You have to make your own way in this world and just because our people experienced something horrifying and unforgettable does not mean we are entitled to have things just handed to us because of what white people’s ancestors did.  I guess it just baffles me how something that black people hate being done to them, they find so easy to do to someone else.  Love and friendship has no color.  Success has no color.  Accomplishments have no color.  So maybe the black community can stop blaming the white community for the reason why they didn’t go and make something out of their lives.  If you haven’t become what it is you want to be there is no one to blame but the person that looks back at you in the mirror everyday.

The Party of NO!

•April 14, 2010 • 1 Comment

I am so tired of hearing the Republicans gripe and complain about what they do not like about this administration.  Now I am a Democrat and I must say that I love what this new administration is doing but I am not biased in my views and I can honestly say that I do not agree with every single thing that they do.  I am not in the practice of being a “yes man” just because that is what my party says which I notice is what a lot of Republicans do.  I am also willing to admit that in certain areas concerning the economy I would like the new administration to move a little faster but I do not think that what the Republicans are doing, which is just saying no to every single possible thing they can say no to, is the right way to go.  I honestly feel that if it were a Republican in the office carrying out the same actions of the new administration then the Republican Party would have no problem with it.  They keep saying that Obama is not doing enough or he’s not doing the right thing, or that he’s not moving on certain issues quick enough but what are they doing to help the situation?  Absolutely Nothing.  They obnoxiously state their insignificant opinions but they are not making any suggestions or compromises to help either.  The Republicans let Bush (the last one in office) screw up this country so bad and for so long (8 undeserved years) and it’s like they expect Obama to be able to undo his damage in just a few short months.  He is not a miracle worker people.  Is he supposed to be some sort of magician who can just wave a magic wand and make all of the Bush mess disappear?  No one is that good to undo what that man did.  Every morning I turn on the news it seems like it’s something else the Republicans are criticizing Obama on but seriously, there has to be something that he is doing right in their eyes.  Or are they just too damn proud to admit it?  Maybe it’s hard for them to fathom that a man of color could possibly do more good for this country than any of them ever could.  I went to the Republican party website (http://www.gop.com/) and the nonsense they put on their website is just unnecessary and uncalled for.  It’s like they’re still in high school or something.  The Democrats do something they don’t like or approve of and they go and poke fun at them on their website.  Come on seriously, aren’t we all adults here?  Maybe the Democrats are just a little more mature than the Republicans and handle defeat a little better.  I don’t think that they should just say yes to everything, but is saying no to everything helping?  The Republican Party just really needs to get it together and stop attacking the Democrats on everything they do because the fact is that Obama and his administration will definitely be in office until 2012 and there’s nothing they can do about that so they just need to suck it up and play nice.
